This program showcases masterworks of sacred choral repertoire from the English Renaissance and the German Baroque.
Allegri Ensemble weaves a full performance of William Byrd’s emotionally complex Mass for Four Voices around two of Bach’s motets for double choir, including the majestic Singet dem Herrn ein neues Lied (BWV 225: Sing to the Lord a new song).
At the heart of the program sits Bach’s beautiful but rarely heard motet O Jesu Christ, meins Lebens Licht (BWV 118: ‘O Jesus Christ, light of my life’).
